CasinOmaha suddenly closes it's doors, laying off about 180 employees. Officials say the closing is temporary, but there's no firm time frame for re-opening. The casino is owned by the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and the decision to close was made by the Omaha Tribal Council. CasinOmaha opened it's doors in 1992 and Tuesday they shut down with plans to renovate and eventually re-open. The parking lot at CasinOmaha was empty Tuesday and an attorney for the business says it closed down like usual Tuesday morning at 2 a.m. but did not re-open. The attorney told us there was a meeting Tuesday morning at eight for employees when they were told of the plans to temporarily close the casino with the goal of restructuring and reopening as soon as possible. The attorney also says the business had been losing money on a daily basis for almost a year now. Attorney Russ Brien said after talking with regulators, it made sense to close the casino so they could basically give everything an overhaul from top to bottom. Both the general manager and the attorney tell me the closing was not forced by regulators and a spokesman for the National Indian Gaming Commission confirms Tuesday's closing was not a result of enforcement action by them.
