"Dewey the Cat" Makes International Debut

Posted:

The famous feline that, for years, found sanctuary in Spencer, Iowa's Public Library has gone from being a popular hometown pet to an international star.

Back in the 1980's "Dewey the Cat" was tossed in the book return bin and left for dead at the Spencer Library. Thanks to the graciousness of the former librarian, Vicki Myron, Dewey lived for almost 20 years among the rows of books. Shortly after the cat died, Myron decided to write a book profiling Dewey, her own life story and a little history of Spencer. The book's now been published and it's already sold in 22 countries. We caught up with Myron Thursday afternoon at her book signing at the Clay County Fair. She describes Dewey in detail.

"I always say he was an old soul in a cats body. He wasn't a regular cat and his stories aren't, well, there's antics in there and things that he did but I think the most important thing that he did is make every single person feel special who came through the library," says Myron.

Myron's book will soon be published in Polish, Hebrew even Sandskrit. The author is set appear on the CBS Early Show on September 21st.
