Last Friday, an extended public comment period on the Hyperion air quality permit closed. Save Union County, CO-OP, and the Sierra Club sent theirs to South Dakota's DENR secretary addressing 36 concerns.
"Well it's appropriate that the letters be submitted and the comments be heard so that the public can be protected regardless of what the outcome is. We hope that everyone feels that they've had the opportunity to be properly heard and that the public gets as much information as possible from which they and the state of South Dakota can make an informed and appropriate decision," says Save Union County Spokesman Ed Cable.
A Hyperion spokesman sent us a statement saying the company's pleased the comment period was extended and believes support for the project remains strong. On Thursday there's a hearing in Pierre, South Dakota to discuss the air permit.
