The Birth Center at St. Luke's has been busier than usual, delivering more babies this year than last. And on Tuesday, they welcomed a record-breaking baby boy to Siouxland. Reporter Samantha Suttle gives us a look at the special baby.
Three out of four babies born in Siouxland are born at St. Luke's Medical Center and this year, it set a new record.
The hospital is welcoming the birth of the 2,086th baby born at St. Luke's in 2008 --- one more baby born there this year than last. As part of the celebration, St. Luke's staff presented proud mom Rachell Schurman of Hawarden, Iowa, with a basket of goodies for new son Aaron. Rachell says she isn't phased by the record-breaking news; she's just glad to have a healthy son.
"It's been just fine. They've been busy, so we're just glad he came when he did and everything was ok," says Rachell Schurman, who delivered the record-breaking baby at St. Luke's.
"As of right now, we're looking at probably doing 2,100 by the end of the day. We'll have a couple more by the end of the day, set an exceeded record," says Tina Laskie, an OB-RN at St. Luke's Medical Center.
This is the third consecutive year St. Luke's has celebrated a new birth record.
Every year St. Luke's keeps track of the most popular baby names in Siouxland and in 2008, topping the list of names were Emma and Ayden.
For the girls, the most popular names this year are Olivia, Isabella, Brooklyn, Addison and Kaylee. For the boys, the most popular names are Caden, Ethan, Jacob, Christopher and Jackson.
