(SIOUX CITY, IA) 24 hours after she was hit by a truck, a family mourns the loss of their little girl. The family of four-year-old Serenity Tweedy spoke about the child's short life.
On Tuesday evening four-year-old Serenity Tweedy was playing outside on West 3rd Street when her grandmother Gloria heard a thump.
"When I got there it was her. And I don't wish that on any kid," says Gloria Cook, Serenity's grandmother.
Serenity was life-flighted to Omaha while her family rushed to be by her side.
"When we got there we were expecting for her to live. And she didn't live. She died," says Cook.
Family and friends describe Serenity as outgoing, smart, and sweet.
"Happy-go-lucky little girl. She was always happy, she was full of energy," says Cook.
"Beautiful little girl and her life had to end so short," says Sheila Dickes, family friend.
Sioux City Police say kids need supervision and education to prevent accidents like this from happening.
"And even if it takes a visual education. If you go into a street and you see a dead animal laying there, you can say, that's what happens to you if you get hit by a car," says Sgt. Ron Heimgartner, Sioux City Police Department.
Serenity's family is remembering a little girl who gave so much in such a short time.
"We're sad because we miss her. But we're happy because we know that she went into eternity," says Cook.
There are no charges against the driver of the truck right now.
Serenity's funeral will be Saturday, September 19 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Public visitation will start at noon followed by the service at 2:00 PM.
The family is also asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses. You can give to the Serenity Tweedy Memorial Fund at Telco Triad Community Credit Union or at any Iowa Nebraska State Bank. Please make checks there payable to Ashley Tweedy, Serenity's aunt.
