(SIOUX CITY, IA) The hype and excitement builds up for weeks but Black Friday is here and gone in an instant! To capture the fleeting, frantic chaos of 2009, we tagged along with a Black Friday veteran stocking up for Christmas at Target.
As a Black Friday veteran, Sally Neville knows the secrets to shopping success.
"You got to be in a good mood, you got to be patient, and you got to have a list ready and you got to get what you want and you got to move fast," says Sally Neville, Black Friday veteran shopper.
A good night's sleep and an early morning - with some sugar - always help.
"I don't think anything's worth spending the night here for," says Neville.
After hours of waiting, with maps in hand, the rush begins at 5:00 AM.
"People are going to move fast and it's going to be crazy and you just got to be positive," says Neville.
Sally heads straight for the sales.
"I got your camera! I got your $88 camera," says Neville.
As hundreds of people swarm the store, Sally and her crew stay together, even when they get a little lost.
"Hurry up. Let's go. We got to get the movies," says Neville. "What are you looking for? For the $3 small appliances. On the back. Thank you, I love you."
After hours of waiting, it takes just 30 minutes to stock up for Christmas.
"Yeah, you have a good day. Alright, we got what we needed," says Neville.
And there's no doubt Sally will be back again next year.
"Every year. Love it," says Neville.
Target opened its doors at 5:00 AM Friday morning. Staff say there was much more foot traffic in the first few hours than in years past. The 32" TVs on sale for $246 sold out in seven minutes!
