Coffee lovers took a break from the daily grind to enjoy a cup of fair trade brew. Folks gathered at Sharing the Dream shop in Vermillion to learn about the journey fair trade coffee takes from Guatemala to South Dakota. Reed Friese owns cherry bean coffee company in Parker, South Dakota, and personally roasts the Guatemalan beans before distributing them throughout the area.
"If you just like good coffee, good quality coffee, and you like the farms that produce good quality coffee to exist, you should want to make them into a sustainable business, because otherwise you might wake up tomorrow and have no options," says Cherry Bean Coffee Company Owner Reed Friese.
Friese says selling fair trade coffee beans ensures that small, rural farmers can keep on growing.
